CHANDIGARH: The newly purchased twin-bin vehicles started moving in the residential areas of the city from Wednesday. These vehicles covered a majority of the areas on the first day. Some residential welfare associations are of the view that how regular the collection of garbage will go on in the future.
Baljinder Singh Bittu, president, Federation of Sectors Welfare Association of Chandigarh (Foswac), said, “On the first day, vehicles came to the residential areas and collected garbage, but things can’t be judged in only a day. Since in many houses, only old people live and in many cases, couples are working, therefore, we should wait to see the proper outcome of this new exercise.”
Hitesh Puri, president of Chandigarh Residents Association Welfare Federation (Crawfed), said, “We did not receive any complaint from any area of the city so far. The authority must ensure that residents should not face any inconvenience during this new exercise of garbage lifting in the city.”
To make residents aware, all these new vehicles send messages to residents regarding segregation of waste.
“We have been giving advertisements in newspapers, informing people through radios so that people start giving waste in segregated form,” said sources.
Governor Punjab-cumadministrator UT V P Singh Badnore in the war room meeting on Wednesday asked officers to advertise the new initiative among residents.
