Bethlehem will not accept visitors, pilgrims at Christmas over COVID-19 - Mayor

Gaza, Dec 24 (Sputnik) The Palestinian city of Bethlehem will not accept pilgrims and visitors at Christmas over the coronavirus pandemic, Mayor Anton Salman said.
“No foreign tourists and visitors will attend this holiday in Bethlehem while the participation of the local community will be very limited compared to the previous years,” the mayor told the WAFA news agency on late Wednesday.
Salman added that the Christmas celebrations would involve only religious ceremonies this year.
The World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11. To date, more than 78.5 million people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide, with over 1.72 million fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
Palestine - the Gaze Strip and West Bank - has confirmed more than 127,000 coronavirus cases so far, with over 1,000 fatalities, JHU adds.
