56-yr-old Lineman electrocuted

Tarn Taran: Baldev Singh (56), a lineman of Powercom, was electrocuted while fixing a fault in the power supply at Jawanda Khurad here on Tuesday. The victim was sent by officials to rectify the fault. The officials sent the lineman alone due to the shortage of staff. He was just doing work when current passed in the cables and he was electrocuted. He died on the spot. The local Sadar police on the statement of Gagandeep Singh, son of the victim, had lodged a report under Section 174 of the CrPC. The postmortem on the body was conducted at the local Civil Hospital. The employees present on the spot said as the department was facing an acute shortage of staff, the workers often fail to adopt precautions leading to such incidents. OC

Two nabbed with banned drugs

Tarn Taran: A team of the local CIA staff led by Sub-Inspector Sukhdev Singh arrested two persons from the National Highway near Rasulpur village and recovered 60,200 intoxicating tablets from them on Tuesday. After receiving a tip-off, the police had installed a naka on the highway. They signalled a Swift Desire (PB-10, B-2333) to stop. After searching the car, they recovered 23,000 tablets of Clovidol-100 SR and 37,200 tablets of Etizolam-0.5 mg. The accused have been identified as Ranjiv Rocky and Pawan Kumar of Ferozepur, who have been booked under Sections 22-C, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act. OC

2 held with 534 liquor bottles

Amritsar: The police on Wednesday arrested two persons and recovered 534 bottles of illicit liquor of various brands from them. The accused are Jatin Chabra of New Kangra Colony and Arun, alias Kallu, of Katra Baggian. ASI Rajinder Kumar, in-charge, Shivala Bhaiya police post, said two cars were also recovered from them. A case under the Excise Act was registered against them at the A Division police station. TNS
