West Bengal: PM Modi will address the centenary celebrations of Visva Bharati University

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the centenary celebrations of Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan, West Bengal today through a video conference.

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar and Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank will also be present during the ceremony.

Visva Bharati, established in 1921 by Rabindranath Tagore, is the oldest university in the country. Nobel laureate Tagore is counted among the leading figures of West Bengal. Assembly elections are due in West Bengal next year.

The PMO said in the statement that in the year 1951, Visva-Bharati was given the status of a central university and was included in institutions of national importance.
