National Farmers Day celebrated at Singsang farm

Imphal, December 23 2020: The Green Foundation, Kwakeithel and Sandum Ningthou Development Association, Ukasoi/Mana Ingkhol organised 'National Farmers Day' today at Singsang Organic Demonstration Farm.

The programme was attended by Dr M Srinivasa Rao, General Manager, Manipur Regional Office National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD); K Sohodeba, Member Mayang Langjing ZP; K Kullabidhu, District Agriculture Officer, Imphal West; T Tompok Meitei, Pradhan Mayang Langjing ZP and Koijam Pahari, Ward Member as presidium members.

U Himmat, CEO Green Foundation said that December 23 is celebrated as 'National Farmers Day' on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Chaudhury Charan Singh, the fifth Prime Minister of India.

He added that, even though Chaudhury Charan Singh was the Prime Minister for just 6 months, the work he did for the welfare of the farmers during this short period of time was noteworthy.

NABARD was also founded by him during his tenure.

U Himmat added that the celebration was being held at Sinsang Organic Demonstration Farm, which is one of a kind in the entire North East India with the idea that any farmer related programmes should be held on the field.

This demonstration farm reaches out to the farmers to educate them about the procedure involved in organic farming and benefits and drawbacks of this technique.

Dr M Thoithoi, subject matter specialist KVK Thoubal and Dr T Basanta, soil scientist ICAR spoke on various topics in the programme and interacted with the farmers.

Experts from Green Foundation also showed the farmers how to conduct soil organic carbon testing.
