The economic crisis that followed the coronavirus-induced lockdown seems to have claimed one more life in Ahmedabad. A 35-year-old jumped to his death from his seventh-floor apartment at Enigma Flats in Thaltej early on Wednesday.

Police identified him as Ankit Tak from Rajasthan who had been staying in a rented flat in the society situated behind Cambay Hotel. Though the exact cause of his death is still not known, his family told cops that Tak's business had been suffering for a while. The police also found several medicinal drugs at his flat.

Cops recovered a visiting card from Tak's residence revealing he was the director of a firm by the name 'Green Gain Energy Solutions'. No suicide note was found at the house. The Sola HC has filed a case of accidental death.

A security guard had found Tak's body lying on the ground early in the morning. He alerted the society members and a couple of residents from B Block identified him. One of the residents, refusing to be named, told Mirror that Tak had been living in the flat on rent for around eight months. "The minimum rent of a 3BHK flat in the society is Rs 40,000. Tak used to pay a bit more as his residence was fully furnished. He always kept to himself and rarely mingled with anyone. At times, he would enquire about house help as no one would work at his residence for a longer time."

Another member told Mirror, "Tak lived here alone. He mostly kept to himself though his parents, who are from Sirohi in Rajasthan, had come to stay with him for a while."

After body was discovered, the society informed Sola police around 6 am. A police official associated with the case told Mirror that Tak's parents revealed he had not been doing well in business. "However, they could not divulge details regarding the amount of loan he had taken," the cop said.

Commenting on the case, Sola-HC PI JP Jadeja said, "We will question his family members as well as his business associates will be enquired with to ascertain the exact cause of the death."
