MUC admission row : Students set to intensify agitation

Imphal, December 23 2020: The students' unions of Government Dance College, Shree Shree Balmukundev Music College and JN Manipur Dance Academy have declared to intensify their ongoing agitation in connection with the admission issue at Manipur University of Culture (MUC).

The students who have completed graduation from these institutes and have diploma certificates have been demanding to ensure their admission at Manipur University of Culture since the past few weeks.

The functionaries of the students' unions of the three institutes during a press meet informed that the representatives of the unions had earlier called on the Chief Minister and apprised their plight to which the Chief Minister assured of possible assistance to make sure their academic year is not wasted.

The students aggrieved by the issuance of admission notice from MUC on December 18 which disregard their demands, yesterday stormed the CM Bungalow yesterday, but later came to learn that the CM has no knowledge on the development, they said.

As such, the representatives of the unions met with the Director of the Art and Culture Department and the VC-in-charge of the MUC, they said.

They also expressed that the issuance of the order before settling the issue, was untimely and uncalled for and as such the agitation of the students unions of the institutes will be intensified.

Neither college nor students unions should be held responsible for any kind of damage to furniture or equipment of MUC or loss of it since all concerned have failed to remove them within the dateline set earlier, they said.
