Letter: Campaigns cost too much money

Rep. Ben McAdams and Burgess Owens.

I am really tired of listening to politicians that are running for office that start campaigning several months before the election. The amount of money that they spend for advertising is outrageous.

In the last election Rep. Ben McAdams and challenger Burgess Owens spent more than $8 million between them. I am sure that money could be put to better use than the backbiting ads that we were bombarded with over the media.

In the United Kingdom, all candidates are allotted the same amount of money to spend on advertising and they are restricted to three months prior to the election. By doing that we would eliminate the lobbyists and the big corporations would not be able to donate money to buy the politicians.
