Patiala, December 22

The stand-off between Punjabi University students and the administration over the submission of the fee for the next semester and holding offline classes is still continuing.

The students, led by various student organisations, have been demanding the university to allow them to submit the fee at the beginning of the next semester due to financial issues and other reasons.

Due to Covid-19, the university has been running its classes online since March. Students of various organisations, including the PSU, the PSU (Lalkar), the AISF and the SFI, said they gave a memorandum to the university stating that the collection of fees should be postponed to the beginning of the semester.

Gurpreet Singh, leader of the PSU (Lalkar), said: “The university authorities are demanding the fee for the semester that is set to begin from January 2021. The students have already submitted the fee for the current semester in October. Demanding fee for another semester in such a short time is a burden.”

He added: “They should demand the fee only when the campus is opened to them. We have already attended classes for nearly two semesters through online mode which caused a number of problems for us. It is unjustified.”

However, the university authorities did not respond to the matter.
