MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday informed the Madras high court that it would provide the siddha medicine required for HIV treatment to a woman who was transfused with HIV positive blood.
The court was hearing a batch of petitions which sought to monitor the government and private blood banks in the state to ensure safe blood transfusions and to provide proper relief to a Sattur woman who was transfused with HIV positive blood.
During the previous hearing, the court had sought response from the state government with regard to the treatment offered for HIV at the Siddha Research Centre in Chennai.
Additional advocate general (AAG) K Chellapandian submitted that the siddha medicines for RAN (Rasagandhi mezhuga, Amukkara chooranum and Nellikkai lehyam) would be distributed to the victim through Sattur Government Hospital.
With regard to providing employment as junior assistant, AAG submitted that the said posting could not be given as it is done through the TNPSC. He further submitted that the petitioner is currently appointed as an office assistant in Sattur Government Hospital and her service was regularised on December 22.
Taking cognizance of the submissions, a division bench of justices N Kirubakaran and B Pugalendhi appreciated the state government for taking steps to provide relief to the victim woman. The judges said that since it was informed that the siddha medicine would be provided, the victim woman can take the same by consulting the doctors at Sattur GH.
The judges also directed the state government to provide Rs 7,500 as monthly assistance for her to take nutritious food and improve her immunity from January 2021.
The case was adjourned by four months.
