Two arrested with banned narcotics worth Rs 1.13 cr

Thane, Dec 22 (UNI) The Thane District Rural police on Monday arrested two persons including one from Uttar Pradesh and seized from them banned narcotics worth Rs. 1.13 crores the police said on Tuesday.

The Senior Inspector Suresh Manore, at the LCB of the Thane district rural police told this correspondent that the District superintendent of Police Vikram Deshmane had ordered the police to undertake criminals watch patrolling in the Ganeshpuri-Murbad sub division.

Accordingly when the team of officials of the LCB were on their rounds on Monday they spotted two persons in a suspicious manner on the Sawad Naka towards Pisa Dam in the limits of the Padgha police station. They were sitting in a four wheeler and were pinned down in the vehicle itself and when a search was carried out the police found one plastic box and a plastic bag in the dickey of the car.

The police gave their names as Jahid Mohammad Hanif Shaikh, 30 of Mutal village of Bhiwandi and the other as Ishwar raghuvir Mishra, 39, of Khirichat in Basti of UP the police said.

The police upon search of the car found 1.700 kgs of brown sugar and 1.700 kgs of MD powder in their possession in the plastic box and the cover the police said. The value of the seized material was rs. 1,13,79,500 the police said.

An offence under sections 8(‘C) and 22(‘C) of the NDPS Act has been registered against the duo with the Padgha police station. They were produced before a local magistrate on Tuesday who remanded them into police custody for five days the police officer said.

The officer also said that the police during the interrogation of the duo will find out as to from where they got the narcotics and to whom they were to sell them the police officer said.
