Nifty Tops 13601 Levels, Sensex Surges 437 Points; Wipro Top Gainer

After a flat opening, indices extended early gains and at the close Nifty settled higher by 1% or 135 points at 13601 , while Sensex gained 437 points or 0.95% to end at 46,444 . Broader markets outperformed headline indices with gains of as much as 2.38% on the Nifty Midcap 100.

Among top gainers on Nifty in today's session are stocks like Wipro, Cipla, Tata Steel, Infosys and Tata Motors while laggards include Divis Labs, Titan Company, NTPC, Coal India and Hero Motocorp.

Software company Ramco System jumped up to 10% after bagging multi-million-dollar deal from a Global Fortune 500 major for unifying and transitioning its Payroll for 18 countries in Asia Pacific region on Ramco's Managed Payroll Services.

Shares of Dish TV on the back of heavy volume gained up to 17% to hit the day's high of Rs. 16.3 apiece on the BSE.

After RBI approved Sandeep Batra's appointment as executive director of ICICI Bank, the scrip of the private lender ended with marginal gains of 0.66%.

At the time of writing this copy, European indices traded mixed with gains on German DAX and French CAC, while London's FTSE was down by 0.13 percent. Also, US stock futures traded strong indicating a positive start for the US markets.

Gold also traded firm on the back of weakness in dollar index. On the MCX, gold futures for February delivery was quoting at Rs. 50,103 per 10gm. Nonetheless, as President Trump has threatened not to sign the stimulus bill, the commodity may see some pressure in the near term.
