Q. In life, am sure there have been multiple occasions where you may have been provoked and gotten very angry. But one seldom sees you blow your top. How do you control your emotions?
A. What is emotion? In the ultimate analysis, it emanates out of ego. Human beings give different nomenclature to rationalise emotion. If one takes control of one’s own mind (allegedly the source of all problems), one realises that pain is inevitable but suffering is optional. I know I am not a spiritual guru or specialist in anger management, but I have seen that if one evaluates ‘what’ is wrong, rather than ‘who’ is wrong (what focuses on issue, who highlights personality) , a lot of such provocations cease to exist. Exponents of healing emphasise on breathing exercises to take charge of occasion-led provocations. In my case, perhaps my EQ, loving detachment to operating environment and its provocations etc have help me discern a futility in blowing my top. After all, the difference between anger and danger is only the alphabet D. One should take a lesson from a matchstick– how a little spark can burn the whole body.
