LUCKNOW: Now, admissions to technical institutions in UP will be through Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Mains instead of the UP State Entrance Examination (UPSEE). Also, for the first time, an Undergraduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (UGPAT) will be organised at the national level for admission in B Pharma colleges of the state.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday asked officials to ensure implementation of a new admission process from the next session to improve the quality of education.

UGPAT will be organised by the National Testing Agency (NTA) at the national level following the suggestion mooted by the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU).

According to officials at AKTU, there are about 270 institutes offering pharmacy courses at undergraduate having a total 21,000 seats. Admissions to BPharma were till this year done through UPSEE. Most probably, from the new academic session 2021-22, admissions will take place through a national test.

AKTU vice-chancellor Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak said UGPAT will help students choose a college not only in UP but other states as well. For UP, the exam will be coordinated by Prof Subodh Vairia.

Centre's decision to conduct JEE Mains four times will help more students secure a seat in prestigious engineering institutions. Multiple attempts are given to ensure students are satisfied with their scores. If they feel that they have obtained less marks, they can appear again.
