Kaizer Chiefs were held to a goalless draw by Angolan outfit Primeiro de Agosto in CAF Confederations Cup first-round first-leg action at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Both teams were still trying to settle down with no real chance at goal on both ends in the opening exchanges.

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo was brought down on the edge of the box with 20 minutes gone and Lebogang Manyama fired the resulting set-piece over the bar.

The cross bar stood in Chiefs way as the ball rebounded off the woodwork and back into play four minutes later.

Agosto had a chance to score as the ball went inches wide in the 38th minute.

The Agosto keeper had to be alert on the hour mark to tip Manyama's shot at goal out for a corner.

Leonardo Castro had a great shot at goal that forced the keeper to make a diving save in the 73rd minute. From the resulting corner, Eric Mathoho had a gilt-edged chance to score but his header went inches wide as Chiefs continued to knock on the door with intent

Bernard Parker was introduced and almost made an instant impact off the bench, but his deflected effort was saved by the Agosto keeper as the Amakhosi had to settle for a share of the spoils in the end.
