Honda To Discontinue Civic And CR-V In India: Here's Everything You Need To Know
Honda Cars India has announced that it will be discontinuing the Civic sedan and the CR-V SUV in the country. This decision was taken by the company as they decided to end vehicle production at its Greater Noida plant and move its entire production unit to the Honda Tapukara plant in the Alwar district, Rajasthan.
However, all Head Office functions, India R&D Centre and Spare Parts operations (including warehouse) for Automobile, Two Wheeler and Power Product business will continue to operate from Greater Noida. With the resumption of operations after the COVID-19 lockdown, the company has successfully ramped-up its daily production volume to pre-covid level from September 2020. It has also been consistently witnessing monthly sales growth for the last three months.
Gaku Nakanishi, President & CEO, Honda Cars India said, "Despite an uptick in sales in the last three months, the current market conditions remain unpredictable for the industry at large. The impact of COVID-19 has pressed us to strengthen our constitution, and to achieve the same, HCIL has decided to consolidate its manufacturing operations by making the Tapukara plant a unified manufacturing base. HCIL continues to believe in the resilience of the Indian economy and hope for a quicker recovery of the market. India is extremely important market in Honda's global strategy and HCIL is committed to bring its latest and advanced technology models including electrified vehicles in future."
Powering the Honda Civic is a 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that pumps out 139bhp of power and 174Nm of peak torque and is mated to the CVT automatic only. On the other hand, the diesel variant is a 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine that makes 118bhp of power and 300Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine comes paired with only a 6-speed manual transmission.
The Honda CR-V was powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, SOHC i-VTEC petrol engine. The unit is capable of producing 152bhp of power at 6,500 rpm and 189Nm of peak torque at 4,300 rpm. The engine is coupled to a CVT gearbox.
Thoughts About Honda To Discontinue Civic And CR-V In India
Both the Honda Civic And CR-V are pretty good cars, but they could not sell in big numbers in the Indian market. Apart from the sales reason, the company is discontinuing the vehicles as the entire production facility is being changed.
