UP will become the most work providing state in MGNREGA: Official

Lucknow, Dec 23(UNI) Not only will Uttar Pradesh emerge as a state providing maximum employment, it will also become the first to register more than two million workers working for 100 days in the MGNREGA in the Labour Department in the new year, State's Additional Commissioner, MGNREGA, Yogesh Kumar said here on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's initiative to provide employment under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is now bearing fruits, he said.

On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the campaign to provide employment to people returning home from other states was started due to the campaign launched in the state.
The workers and their families, who are registered with the labor department of the state, will get the benefit of 17 schemes. And the lives of two million workers in the state will change.
The Rural Development Department of the state has set a target to register 20 lakh labourers working under MGNREGA with the Labor Department by 31 March 2021. In MGNREGA, there is a provision for registration of labourers working 100 days in a year in the labor department.
After getting registered in the labor department, every labourer family will get the benefit of 17 schemes including Shram meritorious student award scheme, 'Child Welfare benefit scheme, construction worker girl child help scheme, meal assistance scheme, medical facility scheme, girl marriage scheme and housing assistance scheme.
According to the state's additional commissioner MGNREGA Yogesh Kumar here on Wednesday , a record 1.4 crore people have worked in the MGNREGA this year. The department has set a target of registering 20 lakh labourers working for full 100 days by March 31, 2021, which is likely to be met in due time.
According to Mr Kumar, continuous efforts are being made to provide employment to the workers in MGNREGA in the state. So far this year, over 1.4 crore labourers of 85 lakh families have been given work in MGNREGA, which is a record. 49.94 lakh families got work in MNREGA in 2016-2017 and 53.15 families in 2019-2020.
No one has got work under MGNREGA in Ghaziabad district because there is no work under MGNREGA in Ghaziabad. In this way, 32 lakh families working under MGNREGA in 74 districts of the state have increased this year. This increase has been due to the government's policy to provide for workers from other states under the MGNREGA.
The data on giving work to the people in the MGNREGA proves that for the people who have returned from other states, the MGNREGA has proved to be a pioneer. And on the instructions of the Chief Minister, under MGNREGA, maximum employment could be provided to the people in 826 blocks and 59,000 gram panchayats of the state. Due to this, people not only got work near their house but also made ends meet in these testing times.
According to Mr Kumar, on June 24, under the MGNREGA, 62 lakh people were employed in one day, which is a record. In June, massive work was being done to connect migrant labourers to MGNREGA. Then most of the migrant labourers returned to the villages were being linked to it and the government had targeted to provide work under MGNREGA to 50 lakh people.
To accomplish this goal, construction work of road construction, pond construction, chak road construction, canal and pond cleaning etc. were started in village-village. During the Corona epidemic, where the government met its target, the MGNREGA proved to be a lifeline for migrant labourers. And even today, the government is proving to be a big lifeline for the workers by providing work to the people in this scheme.
