A short-term course on Ramcharitmanas launched by Vikram University

Ujjain University has launched a short-term six-month science and culture certificate course in the epic poem on Ramcharitmanas, written by Tulsidas. This is an initiative to provide an in-depth understanding of the book. The university has to start the course with 20 seats.

The head of the Hindi department of Vikram University, Prof Shailendra Sharma said that interested students can apply till December 28. “Students can apply through MP Online. Students of 10+2 pass are eligible to apply. We have not capped the upper age limit for the students. It has been done to help everyone who is willing to know more about Lord Ram and Ramcharitmanas,” said Prof Sharma.

Asked ton the objective of launching such a course, Prof Sharma said, “Ramcharitmanas has remained an inspiration for people for centuries in terms of the value of life, religion, spirituality, philosophy, and devotion. Many important references related to physics, chemistry, biology, environmental science, medicinal science, and others exist in Ramcharitmanas, which students will now be able to study in-depth.”

He added, “Similarly, the students of the Ramcharitmanas will be benefited by the characteristics of the Ramcharitmanas in terms of the tradition of Ram Katha, its global spread, various cultural aspects, and Rupankar and performing arts.”

Asked how such a certificate course will help the students in the future, Prof Sharma replied, “Students who complete this course can do several research work. There is still a lot of research possible. We have prepared the syllabus in such a way that students would know even those facts which are known to very few people,” said Prof Sharma.

He added that students can do this course simultaneously with their UG or PG courses. “We have decided to conduct online classes for students living out of Ujjain. Several initiatives will be taken to popularise this course,” said Prof Sharma.

Vice-chancellor of Vikram University, Prof AK Pandey said that through this course, research work on the ancient cities of India like Chitrakoot, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Ujjain will be done. “All these cities are interconnected and have a deep connection with Goswami Tulsidas and Ramcharitmanas.” University’s register UN Shukla said that the course will be conducted in collaboration with the Ayodhya Research Institute, Department of Culture, Government of Uttar Pradesh.
