Severe cold waves, dense fog predicted over northern parts of India

Pune, Dec 22 (UNI) Cold to severe cold waves are likely at isolated places over Odisha, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal and Telangana, Met Department said on Tuesday.
While, cold conditions are likely at isolated places over eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
Dense fog is likely in isolated pockets over Assam, Meghalaya, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Ground frost is likely at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
During the next 24 hours, strong winds with speeds of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph are very likely over Comorin area, Gulf of Mannar and Lakshadweep.
Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning are expected at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Lakshadweep.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea in these areas.
Night temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3°C) at a few places in Rajasthan, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Night temperatures were markedly below normal (-5.1°C or less) at isolated places in Odisha and Telangana.
Night temperatures were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5°C) at many places in Vidarbha; at few places in Punjab, eastern Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, northern interior Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Saurashtra and Kutch, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam.
Night temperatures were below normal (-1.6°C to -3°C) at most places in Rayalaseema, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi; at a few places over Himachal Pradesh, western Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Jharkhand, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, western Uttar Pradesh, and south interior Karnataka.
On Tuesday, the lowest minimum temperature of 3.3 degrees Celsius was reported at Pachmarhi in western Madhya Pradesh over the plains of the country.
From 0530 hours Monday to 0830 hours Tuesday, dense to very dense fog was observed at isolated places over Punjab, northern Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Tripura.
During the same period, the following visibility was recorded at Karnal and Patiala-25 meter each; Patna, Kanpur and Purnea-50 each; Delhi (Palam), Bareilly, Ludhiana, Sultanpur, Fursatgunj, Bahraich and Kailashahar-200.
On Tuesday, cold waves swept many pockets over Punjab and isolated pockets over eastern Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Gangetic West Bengal.
On Monday, cold to severe cold conditions were observed over some pockets of eastern Uttar Pradesh and at isolated pockets of Bihar.

Rain or thundershowers occurred at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Mainly dry weather prevailed in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Lakshadweep.
