Destiny 2 Assistant Game Director Discusses Bringing Back Vault of Glass

Destiny 2 recently added the Exotic hand cannon Hawkmoon, which was introduced in the original Destiny. This may not be the only returning content in Destiny 2. In a recent interview with Polygon, assistant game director Joe Blackburn revealed how the developer could bring back Destiny’s iconic Vault of Glass raid.

Blackburn said, “I think the ultimate goal here is to make it feel like Vault of Glass felt when the first time you did it, which is probably pretty different than if we just did a straight port of Vault of Glass. The guardians have become significantly stronger in this amount of time.” In Destiny 2, players have several new Supers, exotics, weapons, and an element, which have made them significantly stronger compared to Destiny.

The team working on Vault of Glass remake went back to the original version on PlayStation 4 and realized that players would easily beat the raid with Destiny 2 weapons and armour mods. Blackburn explained, “We definitely are going to make changes to make it feel challenging, like it felt before. But we don’t want to go too far, and make it feel like it’s a different raid.”

Blackburn also revealed that weapons from the Vault of Glass raid including Found Verdict and Fatebringer will be coming back with updated perks. He said, “Just like I don’t think you can bring back Vault of Glass if it doesn’t feel like Vault of Glass, and call it Vault of Glass, you can’t bring Vault of Glass without the weapons that feel like Vault of Glass, right? And so I would expect favourites to return.”
