
Jammu and Kashmir DDC Election Results 2020 Live Updates: Counting of votes for the recently concluded Jammu and Kashmir District Development Council (DDC) elections is underway. The fate of nearly 2,181 candidates for the 280 District Development Council (DDC) seats in Jammu and Kashmir will be decided today. The elections, held in eight phases, began on November 28 and ended on December 19.
A day before the counting of votes, the PDP claimed detention of three of its senior leaders Monday. While the police were silent on the matter, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti called the action “out and out gunda raj”, and said it showed the BJP was trying to “manipulate” the results. The PDP leaders reportedly detained were former minister and senior leader Naeem Akhtar, Mufti’s uncle Sartaj Madni, and her former political adviser Peerzada Mansoor Hussain. A senior PDP leader said they had no contact with its Ganderbal district president Bashir Ahmad Mir either, and his family had been informed that he too had been detained.
Seven political parties, including the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party, contested the polls in an alliance, under the banner of the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) formed for restoration of Article 370. The Congress was initially a part of the PAGD but distanced itself when the BJP targeted the opposition party for being in league with the ‘Gupkar Gang’.
In Reasi district, Congress and NC were leading at one place each.
In Jammu district, early trends show that BJP was leading in Bishnah, R S Pura and Akhnoor.
As the counting of votes polled during the maiden District Development Council elections in Jammu and Kashmir began on Tuesday morning, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked mortar shelling and small arms fire along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. Sources said the cross border shelling started around 9.30 am in Mankote area of Mendhar. The Indian troops were retaliating, sources said. (ENS)
The District Development Councils (DDCs) are set to become a new unit of governance in Jammu and Kashmir. A legislation to this effect was brought in by the Ministry of Home Affairs on October 16 through an amendment to the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989. This structure will include a DDC and a District Planning Committee (DPC).
The J&K administration has also amended the J&K Panchayati Raj Rules, 1996, to provide for establishment of elected District Development Councils in J&K.

State Election Commissioner KK Sharma has directed the deputy commissioners that COVID-19 protocols must be observed through mandatory masks and hand sanitiser at each table, besides all the counting staff and other officials should compulsorily wear masks before entering the counting halls. He had revied the preparedness at counting booths across the Union Territory on Sunday.
