COIMBATORE: A day after India banned flights from the
United Kingdom and other airlines from flying in people with a recent
travel history to the UK, health department officials visited the
Coimbatore Airport on Tuesday to check on passengers, who arrived to the city from UK in the last two weeks.
Since there are no direct flights from UK, the airport officials were asked to check the domestic passengers too with a travel history from the country. They also appeal to people, who arrived from UK in the last two weeks, to quarantine themselves for a week.
The district’s daily count of
Covid-19 cases fell below 120 cases and the active cases was below 1,000.
Health officers and district administration said that all measures were taken to prevent another wave of the virus, especially with a different strain.
“Earlier, the Covid-19 cases rapidly multiplied in just a few months. Now, the best way is to ensure all the infected people begin to isolate themselves at the entry point itself,” said deputy director of public health Dr G Ramesh Kumar.
Officers also inspected Walayar check-post to check if people coming in from Kerala were being screened and followed precautions.
“We are also checking if public transport vehicles are following precautions like wearing masks and using sanitisers,” said an official.
