Midwinter waterfall bird status survey to start from January 6 next

Kendrapada, Dec 22 (UNI) The Midwinter waterfall bird status survey would be carried out in five forests and wildlife ranges under Bhitarkanika National Park on January 6 next.
Rajnagar Mangrove Forest and wildlife Division DFO. Bikash Ranjan Dash said the survey would be conducted by Bhitarkanika forest officials along with the renowned ornithologist, bird experts and researchers.
The survey will be conducted at Satabhaya, Raitapatia,Barunei Muhana ,Chataka, Praharajpur and Bagagahan under Bhitarkanika National park.
Mr Dash said about 16 enumerator teams would be engaged to count the avian species.
The counting of birds would be done by traditional “Direct Sighting “ methods The researchers and ornithologists would use spotting scope, binocular and cameras to count birds in the park.
Every year, Migratory birds fly to Bhitarakanika to escape the harsh winter from Siberia, Afghanistan, Iraq, northern Asia and some central European countries. They stay in Bhitarakanika for about three-four months to escape from harsh winter before starting their homeward sojourn from the park.
As many as 1,18,326 birds of 105 types of bird species visited Bhitarkanika National park last Year.
