Patna, Dec 22 : A woman vendor in Bihar's Muzaffarpur town threw hot tea on the face of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police during an anti-encroachment drive, an official said on Tuesday.

ASI Suman Ji Jha, who sustained burn injuries, has been admitted to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH).

Jha, station in-charge of the SKMCH outpost, was carrying out an anti-encroachment drive outside the hospital premises on Monday evening around 7 p.m.

A large number of street vendors including fruit sellers, tea vendors have occupied space outside the gate of SKMCH. A police team led by Jha had gone there to evict them when the incident occured.

During the anti-encroachment drive, a woman vendor got into a heated argument with the ASI after the police personnel asked her to remove her cart.

The woman, in a fit of rage, picked up a vessel from the stove containing hot tea and threw it on ASI Jha's face.

"Following the incident, she was overpowered by the other police personnel and taken to the police outpost. She has been booked under appropriate sections and was later presented before the judicial magistrate who sent her to judicial custody for 14 days," said Rajesh Kumar, City SP, Muzaffarpur.
