CHENNAI: The
Tamil Nadu government has banned
celebrations on the
New Year eve at restaurants,
hotels, clubs, resorts, including beach resorts and other similar places due to
Covid-19. Celebrations are also banned on
roads and
beaches on
New Year eve and on January 1.
“There is a need to intensify Covid-19 preventive measures in the backdrop of fresh wave of infections in foreign countries,” said an official statement. The government, however, allowed dining as usual in restaurants, hotels, clubs, resorts, including beach resorts and other similar places.
The government said that it had brought under control the infectious disease with its best efforts and the support of people. The state had only 9,495 active cases as on Monday, while 12 districts reported single-digit cases and Perambalur nil.
“As there is a chance of huge crowding for celebrations in restaurants, hotels, clubs, resorts, including beach resorts and in beaches and on roads on New Year eve, there is a possibility of surge in infections, which have been brought under control,” the statement said.
