Bihar farmers exhorted to join national agitation for withdrawal of Agriculture Reforms Act

Patna, Dec 21 (UNI) United Kisan Front (UKF) today called upon farmers of Bihar to join
national agitation to press Narendra Modi government for immediate withdrawal of
Agriculture Reforms Act and also launching of Minimum Support Price (MSP) Guarantee
Act across the country to prevent farmers from distress selling of their produce.
Gurnam Singh Chadhuni, a senior leader of United Kisan Front , told media persons
here that Agriculture Reforms Act enforced by Narendra Modi government was aimed at
giving all benefits to Corporate houses owned by Ambani and Adani.
Condition of farmers in Punjab and other states across the country would further
deteriorate if Agriculture Acts were not withdrawn immediately by the Centre, he added.
Mr Chadhuni said that farmers would be forced to suffer all sorts of exploitations by
marketing companies under various provisions of contract farming envisaged under
Agriculture Reforms Act.
Farmers would not tolerate such Agriculture Acts and continue their agitation till deaths
if the Centre did not withdraw the same immediately, he added.
UKF leader said that farmers of Bihar had suffered a lot due to repealing of Agriculture
Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) act in 2006. Farmers of Bihar had no option but to
sell paddy at the rate of Rs 1000 per quintal while the MSP of paddy was fixed at Rs 1888
per quintal.
Once MSP guarantee Act was framed by the Centre, farmers of Bihar would get MSP of
not only paddy but also Maize and other crops, he further said adding that guarantee of
MSP by farmers would substantially increase income of farmers in Bihar and other states
across the country.
