Filmmaker Hansal Mehta's series, Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, emerged as the top Indian web series of 2020, according to IMDb. Pratik Gandhi, who played the titular character in the series, won plaudits for his portrayal of Harshad Mehta, which made him a household name. However, the highly appreciated series did not win any trophy at the Filmfare OTT Awards 2020. Many people were expressing their anger over the award function snub for Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. And now Hansal Mehta has revealed the real reason why his critically acclaimed series failed to win any award at the ceremony. Unhappy with the nominations, one Twitter user wrote, "Once again @filmfare doesn't recognise and appreciate the real talent But this time in OTT platform. No awards for Scam 1992 the Harshad Mehta story. Scam 1992 which wins everybody's heart you are above this." While fans kept tweeting about how the series was snubbed at the award function, Hansal Mehta replied to the mentioned tweet, saying that Scam 1992 series was released after the cutoff date for this year’s OTT awards. "Seeing many tweets echoing similar sentiments. #Scam1992 was released much after the cutoff date for this year’s #FilmfareOTTAwards. Hence it was not eligible for nomination. Our biggest award is the love we continue to receive from you," Hansal Mehta tweeted.
In another tweet, he said, "The awards ceremony was dignified and as safe as possible. Fantastic nominees, each deserving an award. And absolutely deserving winners. These awards were a much needed celebration of genuine talent. So heartwarming to witness."
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta's series Scam 1992 narrates the story of one of the biggest financial scams in the Indian stock market. The financial thriller is based on Debashis Basu and Sucheta Dalal's book The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away. Pratik Gandhi is seen in the role of Harshad Mehta, the scam-tainted broker who was known as the Big Bull.
