The city police is all set to dispose of 2,500 pending cases of matrimonial disputes at a mega camp to be organised on December 26 in the Police Lines. This is the first of its kind camp ever to be organised by the city police.

Ludhiana Police Commissioner (CP) Rakesh Agrawal took the decision after noticing huge backlog of cases at the women police station.

“Although we organise routine camps to dispose of matrimonial cases, this will be the first ever mega camp in which target is to dispose of all 2,500 pending complaints. We will set up 50 counters to be supervised by more than 100 cops and private counsellors. If not all, I have directed the team to dispose of atleast 90 per cent cases at the camp. The pending cases will be cleared by December 31,” Agrawal told The Tribune.

The camp will start at 10 am and end at 3 pm on December 26. Couples having disputes have been asked to attend the camp. DCP (Law and Order) Ashwani Kapur, ADCP (Industrial Security) Gurpreet Singh Sikand, four Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) and ADCP rank officials will listen to couples problems at the camp,” the CP said.

“The police will make efforts for couples to reach compromise in most cases either by mutual separation or by giving required compensation to women. The police will register an FIR as per the law in cases which do not reach any conclusion,” the CP added.

The CP advised couples having disputes not to indulge in any litigation. If possible these cases should be solved by reaching an amicable solution, the CP said.
