The Supreme Court dismissed the petition challenging the election of Congress leader Dheeraj Prasad Sahu, who was elected a Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand in 2018. BJP candidate Pradeep Kumar Santhalia challenged the apex court in the Jharkhand High Court order. A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde said the vote of then MLA Amit Kumar Mahato was valid. Mahato cast his vote before the trial court's verdict.
In fact, Mahato was convicted in a case by the lower court on March 23, 2018, and votes were cast for the Rajya Sabha on the same day. The High Court had in January this year dismissed Santhalia's plea and upheld Sahu's election.
