Actress Neena Gupta has been quite open while talking about her personal life and relationships. He had her daughter Masaba Gupta out of wedlock when she was in a relationship with West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards. She raised her daughter as a single mother and got married to Delhi’s Vivek Mehra at the age of 48 in 2008. The actress recently appeared on a web show called Dating These Days and was seen having a conversation about dating. She revealed one horrible thing that one of her boyfriends had said to her when they were fighting which she would probably never forget in her life. "A boyfriend of mine.... We were fighting and he said nastily to me ‘you are still on the shelf!’ I will never forget that! It is horrible.Nobody is waiting to be picked up,” Neena Gupta said. Talking about how marriage can't be forced on someone, Neena explained while sharing an incident, "I had this couple friend from Delhi who was staying next door in Mumbai. I had this another male friend. But I never felt like ‘that’ towards him, I liked him. They used to tell me ‘marry this man, he is a very nice man’. They were after me ‘he is such a nice man, and a bachelor! He is wealthy and even owns a flat. Just marry him already’. When I said I do not love him or lust him, I was told ‘ just go ahead and marry. Love will also happen’. This is our culture, tradition.”
Neena further listed down three most favourite things about being married which are, "Companionship, support and somebody to lean on.” She went on to add, "Also, I got married very late, I married at 48. What I realised after a few years of marriage is, you don’t depend on him for your happiness. You do your thing. At least, he is not stopping me from doing my thing.”
Sharing her mantra of a happy marriage, Neena said, "What I do if I am angry with my husband about something - which I am very often - I tell myself, okay but he is very good like this, like this. And my anger goes. This is being sensible and wise. Practical. It is a sign of you being healthy, You need to decide, I want to make this relationship work. Not giving up on people, otherwise it is very easy to give up on people. I realised that very late. This wisdom has come very late to me, I have done major mistakes in my life.You know, these kind of stupid mistakes.”
Neena says her version of a perfect date is one where she can eat and drink anything she likes. "(My idea of a perfect date is) That someone will take me to a very beautiful place for a candle light dinner and we could talk about many things. I should be able to order what I want to eat or drink. That's my ideal perfect date!" she said.
The actress also opened up about generation gap, saying she believes that a beginning has to be made by both parties.
"Today's parents have been brought up a certain way and it's not very easy to change their mindset. But I think time has come when you have to try and talk to them. You might not succeed but the beginning has to be made," she said.
