OCs talk to DGP about lack of toilets, ask him to introduce weekly-offs

Ranchi: Interacting with the director general of police (DGP) M V Rao, the officers-in-charge (OC) of police stations on Friday put forward suggestions, including bringing improvement in the accommodation and toilet facilities, honing of forensic skills and introducing the system of weekly-offs.
Notably, Rao held a video conference with OCs of seven extremist-affected districts —Chatra, Giridih, Ramgarh, Gumla, Latehar and Garhwa — in order to get information on their working environment and ways to improve their performance.
The OCs were asked to speak freely on various issues including availability of vehicles, manpower, support from seniors, hindrance faced from various quarters, training and working ecosystem.
After listening to their problems, the DGP advised the OCs to focus on their job and be more public-friendly.
Rao informed media later that accommodation for officers at the police campus would save their time and they would also feel comfortable with their families nearby.
He said that in the view of rising number of policemen at each police station, there is need for more toilets as well. “The administration will ensure that there is at least one officer trained in forensic at every police station and training will start in the coming days,” Rao said.
He said that the headquarters is also mulling introducing weekly-offs for one-seventh of the force at the police station level. It would be introduced on a pilot basis at some stations and extended to other parts if found successful.
He said, “I held interactions with 32 OCs on Friday. Interactions will continue till the last OC of the state is covered. It is an effort to directly connect to the grassroot officers. Streamlining works of police stations would have direct benefit for the people.”
The DGP said that all the OCs are ready to transform according to the need of the hour. “Our aim is to create an environment where criminals would shiver to commit a crime,” he said.
