President Ramnath Kovind on Saturday hailed Goa for remarkable and significant progress in many fields in the last 6 decades. He was speaking at Campal, Panaji after inaugurating Goa’s 60th Liberation Day celebration event. President Kovind recalled the immense contribution of freedom fighters to liberate Goa from 450 years of Portuguese rule. He said the Goa liberation struggle was not only a civil right struggle but a struggle for integration with India.
President Kovind said that Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia had exhorted Goans in June 1946, to fight for liberation. The President also remembered the great work of Dr. T. B. Cunha and other freedom fighters.
President also praised Goa for highest per capita income and remarkable progress in education, pharma and industry sector. The pace of development would accelerate further after completion of Mopa International airport. Tourism would also get impetus, President Kovind added.
Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Ayush Minister Shripad Naik, Protocol Minister Mauvin Godinho and leader of opposition Digambar Kamat also spoke on the occasion.
President Kovind also paid tributes to Martyrs memorial at Azad Maidan Panaji.
