The state poll panel on Friday countermanded the of 13 members of the Sindigeri gram panchayat (GP) in Ballari district, taking a tough stand against the auction of seats.
The 13 members were elected unopposed from five wards of Byluru village, which is part of the Sindigeri GP, after they agreed to offer Rs 51 lakh to the village deity.
The auction for these seats was held on December 5. GP polls will be held in Sindigeri on December 22. Police have also registered cases against the 13 candidates and five auctioneers.
