LUDHIANA: A farmer was shot dead at Sidhwan Khurd village in Ludhiana’s Jagraon on Friday evening. The Sadar Jagraon police have booked unidentified people in the case.
The 42-year-old Randhir Singh Dhira was a successful agriculture and dairy farmer and he also did farming on a land belonging to a college after taking it on contract. The deceased had a stock of cattle as well.
The family members of the deceased told cops that Randhir was at home when an acquaintance of his came and told him that two persons have come to buy cattle from him.
He went along with them in a car. They took Randhir to a motor room in his fields where they shot him dead after a scuffle, said the family members.
Jaspal Singh, brother of the deceased, said that a migrant worker who works in his fields informed the family that he heard a firecracker burst type voice coming from the motor room.
He along with his other villagers rushed to the spot where they found Randhir in a pool of blood.
Jaspal said that at the time Randhir was alive so they rushed him to Civil Hospital in Jagraon, where the doctors declared him dead. He said his brother had received five bullet injuries.
“One suspect from the village who had come to call Randhir, had lived with him for the last eight to nine months. He has been detained by police,” said Jaspal.
After getting information about the incident, cops from Sadar Jagraon police station reached the spot and started a probe into the matter.

“A murder case was registered into the matter on Saturday morning. The police are checking CCTV footage of various areas to dole out clues into the matter,” said Chowkiman Police post incharge Sharanjit Singh.
