Cape Town City extended their unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership to five games after recording a 3-2 victory over TS Galaxy at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening.
City claimed first blood through Surprise Ralani before Galaxy hit back with two goals, putting them in front on the half-hour mark.
The Citizens were quick to draw level from the penalty spot before Tashreeq Morris netted what would turn out to be the winning goal on the stroke of half-time.
The first half was an action-packed affair, producing no less than five goals as the Citizens eventually came out on top on the stroke of half-time.
The opener arrived after just 10 minutes of play, Ralani chipping the onrushing 'keeper to help put the hosts on the front foot.
However, the Rockets responded almost immediately, drawing level three minutes later as Mxolisi Macuphu found the back of the net with a powerful shot from the centre of the area.
And, with the momentum in their favour, Galaxy kept probing the City defence, eventually forging the breakthrough they were looking for in the 32nd minute when Macuphu netted his second of the game from the penalty spot following a handball in the box.
But the Citizens responded magnificently, drawing level through Mduduzi Mdantsane's penalty six minutes later, before Morris popped up in the second minute of injury time to fire the hosts back in front.
While the first half had offered up a goal-fest for fans and neutrals alike, the same cannot be said of the second half.
The chances dried up at both ends of the pitch, with neither side able to forge another breakthrough.
It would have perhaps been a different story, however, if Craig Martin had not seen his low shot come back off the post in the 49th minute.
In the end, that missed opportunity did not come back to haunt the Citizens as they held on comfortably to claim all three points on offer.
