A 23-year-old man committed suicide by hanging on a rope fastened to a well near Sriperumbudur on Friday.

Chennai: The deceased was identified as Dhanansei Kumar of Bihar, who came to Chennai in search of a job. Police said Kumar, who joined in a private firm, was staying with a few north Indians at a house in Kivalur village near Sriperumbudur.
On Thursday night, his roommates had left for night duty and Kumar was alone in the house. On Friday morning, when they returned home, they found Kumar hanging on the rope fastened to the well in front of the house.
On information, Sriperumbudur police visited the spot and retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem to the Sriperumbudur Government Hospital. Police said preliminary enquiry indicates that Kumar had committed suicide using the rope meant to fetch water from the well.
The police have registered a case and are investigating the reason behind the suicide, including chances of any foul play.
