Union Home Secy likely to meet WB Chief Secy & DGP virtually over L&O situation

New Delhi, Dec 18(UNI) Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla is likely to hold a meeting with West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay and Director General of Police Virendra on Friday evening over deteriorating law and order situation in the state, a home ministry official said.
The Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA) had summoned the top two bureaucrats to Ministry following the attack on BJP president JP Nadda cavalcade on December 10 during his visit to the Diamond Harbour area of Kolkata, allegedly by the TMC workers, but both of them expressed their inability to come to Delhi at that time.
The MHA again sent a letter to them on Thursday asking them to come to New Delhi for a meeting today.
Responding to the MHA's letter, the West Bengal CS and DGP expressed their inability to come to the National Capital, but agreed to attend the meeting via video conferencing which is likely to be held at 1700 hrs at North Block.
If this meeting does take place, the both top officials would be asked to explain to deteriorating law and order situation and rise in other crimes including political killings in the state in recent times, a Ministry official said.
The Centre has taken a stern view on the recent attack in BJP chief's entourage on December 10 and had sought report from the State Government and from the Governor as well.
The Centre on Thursday asked the West Bengal Government to immediately relieve the three IPS officers who were called for central deputation, for joining them to the assigned posting at the earliest.
In a letter written to the West Bengal Chief Secretary, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has referred to the IPS cadre rules 1954 stating that the Centre prevails over the state Government in case of any dispute and also asked the concerned officers to report at earliest.
The three IPS officers, who were summoned on December 10 by the MHA to serve in central deputation are Bholanath Pandey, SP, Diamond Harbour, Praveen Tripathi, DIG, Presidency Range and Rajeev Mishra, ADG, South Bengal.
