Kolkata, Dec 18 (UNI) All eyes on Suvendu Adhikari's next political move as speculation is rife across West Bengal that he may join the BJP when Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to hold a
public rally in Medinipur on Saturday.
Mr Adhikari has severed all ties with the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress after his resignation from the membership of state legislature this week and from the ministry on November 26.
However, a technical problem arose from his resignation from the state legislature as Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee on Friday said Mr Adhikari's letter of resignation has not been accepted.
"I have examined the letter and found that the dates have not been specified. Some details not mentioned as per the rules of Constituency," Mr Banerjee told reporters at the Assembly.
"I am yet to be satisfied with the resignation letter. I had not been informed that it is voluntary and genuine. So it is not possible to accept the letter as it is. I have asked Suvendu to appear before me on December 21 at 2 pm," Mr Banerjee said.
Mr Adhikari had submitted the handwritten resignation letter to the state assembly secretary on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a report from Medinipur said Mr Adhikari has been provided with the central security forces with "Z" category status following intelligence input.
Mr Adhikari has been moving around without any security cover since the state government withdrew immediately after he quit the ministry late last month.
Adhikari in a letter to Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar yesterday sought the latter's intervention so that "police and administration are dissuaded from implicating him and associates in criminal cases out of political vendetta".
Mr Dhankhar on Thursday called upon the Mamata Banerjee Government officials called upon Mamata Banerjee Government officials to take urgent measures on representation from former Minister Suvendu Adhikari apprehending false implication “in criminal cases out of political motivation and vendetta.” apprehending false implication “in criminal cases out of political motivation and vendetta.”
Meanwhile, the BJP leadership in Bengal is agog with the scheduled two-day visit of Amit Shah, who is expected to land at the city airport tonight.
According to a tentative itinerary, Mr Shah is scheduled to land at the city airport tonight and stay at a hotel at New Town on the outskirt of the city.
Following day Mr Shah is likely to hold a meting with the officials of the National Investigating Agency (NIA), and then visit the ancestral home of Swami Vivekananda in central Kolkata before flying to Medinipur in helicopter.
There he would pay a visit to Sidheswari Mandir there and then pay a floral tribute to revolutionary Khudiram Bose.
Mr Shah will also visit the Mahamaya Mandir and offer puja there and then will have lunch at a farmer's house in Belijuri village in West Medinipur.
Mr Shah is expected to address a public meeting at Medinipur College ground and then return to this city in the evening and preside over a couple of meetings in south Kolkata.
On Sunday morning Mr Shah will fly to Visva Bharati and attend a programme at Bangladesh Bhawan.
Then he would have lunch with Baul singer at Paruldanga before holding a roadshow there and address a media conference at Bolpur.
He will fly to Andal airport and return to Delhi.
