The country's first international sports university will be opened in Pune, Maharashtra. State Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Sunil Kedar said on Thursday that an initial fund of Rs 400 crore will be given to building the university. With the opening of the Sports University, talented and emerging sportspersons of the country including Maharashtra will be able to get international sports facilities.
Maharashtra Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Sunil Kedar said that Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Balewadi will become a sports university in Pune. Currently, a variety of international-class sports facilities are available here. But with the opening of the university, sports facilities will be canceled. The Olympic building is proposed to be built in Pune itself.
Sunil Kedar said that a committee was formed under the chairmanship of former vice-chancellor of Mumbai University Vijay Khole and based on its recommendations, the state government decided to set up an International Sports University in Pune. All facilities will conform to international standards so that players get quality training and input. The state cabinet last week approved the draft bill for the establishment of the International Sports University, which has been approved in the two-day winter session of the state legislature.
The academic session will start from the year 2021-2022
State Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Sunil Kedar said that in the year 2021-2022, the education system will be started in the sports university. In the first year, a total of three courses including Sports Science, Sports Technology, Sports Medicine, Sports Governing, Sports Management, Sports Media & Communication, and Sports Coaching & Training will be started. In the first year, 50 students will be admitted for each course. The number of courses and admission of students will be increased in the second year. For this, appointments will also be made in about 213 different posts in the university. It will also include international level instructors.
