T’PURAM: Health minister K K Shailaja has said registration of healthcare workers for Covid-19 vaccination is nearing completion. While the process has been completed in the government sector, nearly 81% is finished in the private sector.
From the government sector, 4,064 healthcare workers have been registered for the vaccination. In the private sector, so far 4,557 have been registered, including those in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kannur. The registration will be completed soon, the minister said.
Shailaja reminded that the first phase of the vaccination will cover healthcare workers and medical students. The government has included all healthcare workers under various streams, including Ayush. Besides, 27,000 Asha workers have also been included in the first phase.
The medical students from medical, dental, nursing, and para-medical courses will be part of the initial phase, in which those employed with Anganwadis and the ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) will also be included. There are about 33,000 Anganwadi workers in the state.
The registration of the healthcare workers is being done as per the recommendations from the union health ministry and the Indian Council of Medical Research. The data is reportedly being uploaded to the union health ministry. The health minister said that the government has constituted an expert committee for the distribution of the
vaccine.
All the preparations for the stocking and the distribution of the vaccines have been made in the state, she added. A state nodal officer will be in charge of the distribution and stocking. District-level nodal authorities will monitor the distribution, the minister said.
