IPL 2021 – BCCI AGM will decide whether new teams in IPL 2021 will be increased or not ?
The biggest conundrum surrounding the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) is the addition of new teams to the already existing roster of eight. According to the agenda of the December 24 AGM, there is a probability of the addition of new teams. “Approval on inclusion of 2 (two) new teams to the Indian Premier League” was listed on the agenda as reported by InsideSport earlier.
The proposal to increase two teams for the Indian Premier League 2021 (IPL 2021) will be formally floated for the approval of the house in the AGM on Dec 24th. An approval will be taken from the representatives of all the state associations for the inclusion of two new teams as well
In case BCCI AGM agrees to the introduction of new IPL teams from IPL 2021, Ahmedabad city is almost certain to be included in the IPL franchise city list. According to the information available with InsideSport, one thing is certain now that Ahmedabad city will be included in the IPL roster before anyone else. The names of Lucknow / Kanpur, Pune will come for discussion if the BCCI AGM decides to increase more than 1 team for IPL 2021 or IPL 2022.
IPL 2020 – New Governing council for IPL 2021 be ratified
IPL chairman Brijesh Patel and Khairul Jamal (Mamon) Majumdar are the two members who have been re-elected in the governing council. Patel’s re-election was proposed by TNCA top boss RS Ramaswamy and Kerala’s Sreejith Nair seconded his name. In case of Majundar, CAB president Avishek Dalmiya was the proposer and Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Sanjay Naik was the seconder.
All these appointments, any addition – deletion in the IPL Governing Council will have to be ratified by the BCCI AGM.
On the other hand, former IPL Chairman * Rajya Sabha MP Rajiv Shukla will take office as the new vice-president of BCCI after the members have unanimously decided to elect the veteran Congressman. Shukla had earlier been a vice-president during N Srinivasan’s regime and was also a popular chairman of the IPL governing council.
Will IPL 2021 be held in India?
Will Indian Premier League 2021 be held in India or not? It is a question which has been on fans’ mind for long now. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly earlier in November said that they are trying to bring back IPL to the country. However, BCCI will assess the situation before taking a final decision. IPL 2021 is scheduled to be held between March and May next year.
Though any decision on venues and dates of IPL 2021 is the prerogative of IPL Governing Council – but according to the info available, the matter will also be discussed in the BCCI AGM.
The BCCI usually does give a small break to its players before the congested Indian Premier League matches starts. India’s apex cricketing body is expected to give the players a 2-week layoff before they schedule the first match of the IPL 2021.
This could well mean that the next edition of the Indian Premier League is likely to be organized from the second week of April. Previously, the IPL seasons usually started off between the last week of March and the second week of April itself.
