Only symptomatic air passengers to be tested for Covid now

Imphal, December 17 2020: Only symptomatic and persons having history of contact with Covid positive persons will be tested for the virus at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal.

Testing of other incoming air passengers at the airport will be discontinued from December 18, said an order of the Health Department today.

The testing of incoming air passengers is being discontinued as the percentage of them (air passengers) testing positive has reduced to about 1 percent and targeted testing is not considered essential when the positivity rate is below 2 percent, said the order issued by Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), Vumlunmang today.

However thermal screening surveillance will be made more vigorous by increasing the number of screening counters in the airport from 1 to 4.Covid testing wiil be done for symptomatic persons, fur ther, travellers with history of contact with COVID-19 positive persons will also be tested.

The order is based on the decisions taken in the meeting of COVID Task Force hels on December 14, said the order.
