New Delhi: Congress on Friday advised Prime Minister Narendra Modi “to follow Gujarat CM Modi” who had asked for statutory guarantee on MSP” for essential commodities.

“Why does Prime Minister Modi not listen to chief minister Modi on the guarantee of minimum support price? When he was chief minister, Narendra Modi as chairman of a working group recommended that minimum support price should be given a legal guarantee. So, why is Prime Minister Modi retracting from what he wrote as CM,” Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said in response to Modi’s allegation that Congress state governments made farmers wait for loan waiver after poll promises in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Surjewala accused the government of trying to help big business houses by enacting the farms laws and questioned the rationale of the PM addressing farmers in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh while not caring to meet agitating farmers in Delhi.

Asking Modi to stop blaming the opposition and acknowledge farmers were up against his government and struggling on the streets, Surjewala added: “The Modi government, steeped in arrogance from top of the Himalayas, has its hands stained by the blood of 24 Annadadas who lost lives demanding justice. The Modi government should stop deceit, fraud, hypocrisy and accept demands of farmers and withdraw the anti-farmer laws.”
