The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has demanded a CAG audit into the PM Cares fund that was created by the central government in March this year.
Raising the issue of non-payment of salaries of BSNL employee for "eight months", TMC Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh said, "It seems the country itself is on sale. The TMC demands a CAG audit of the PM Cares fund. The central government should answer."
Ever since the PM Cares fund was created to collect donations to help the government handle the Covid-19 situation, the Opposition has been demanding that the fund should either be brought under the preview of RTI or should be audited by the CAG to ensure accountability. However, the government has declined both demands.
Kakoli Ghosh also alleged that the BJP is "attacking" West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee because it "cannot breach Bengal".
"TMC is a disciplined party and those who believe in Mamata Banerjee's ideology, are very much with the party. If the BJP's strategy is to scare the TMC, then they are mistaken. Federal structure of the country has been totally bulldozed. They are trying to intimidate state government officials," Ghosh said.
On the issue of several TMC MLAs deserting the party just ahead of the state assembly polls, she said the party is "being cleansed".
"Those who were with Mamata Banerjee are still with the party. People keep jumping from one party to other. It's nothing new. But it will not yield any result. Those who think they will win instantly by joining the BJP, let me remind them, the people of Bengal won't spare immorality. People won't accept them," Ghosh said.
