UDUPI: Reports of five Covid-19 positive cases across the district on Friday meant Udupi had touched the lowest single day case load in a span of 72-hours. On December 15, the district reporting six cases for the day had touched its lowest mark against nine cases reported on May 27.
The district’s Covid19 fatality sheet tipped over a notch northwards with one death reported from Karkala to touch 188. This was the first death since November 7.
Amidst this ‘positive’ development on the pandemic front, the district administration on Friday readied itself to vaccinate 17641 frontline Covid19 warriors against the disease. These warriors are drawn from government and private medical facilities across the district, noted G Jagadeesha, deputy commissioner. Udupi is expecting the first batch of vaccine approved by the union government to reach it anytime in the last quarter of current fiscal.
The vaccine will be administered to the identified warriors in two doses. Training is already being imparted to these health sector personnel. Vaccine store rooms have been readied and 1324 vehicles identified to transport them. Vaccination will be given to 100 persons at one place and 342 government and 18 private places have been identified for this purpose. Every centre will be manned by five trained personnel, Jagadeesha noted.
Each vaccination centre will have an inspection room, vaccination room and an observation room and arrangements have been made. The identified beneficiaries will be informed about the time and date of the vaccination through SMS with details of the vaccine that they will be administered. The warriors will receive a certificate after they get their two doses. Steps have been taken for safe disposal of syringes that will be used, he said.
