NEW DELHI: West Bengal Assembly speaker Biman Banerjee on Friday said that he is not accepting the resignation of Suvendu Adhikari owing to procedural flaws.
The speaker also said that he had no clue if the "resignation is voluntary and genuine".
"Unless and until I am satisfied that the resignation is voluntary and genuine, it is not possible for me to accept the same in the light of the provisions of the Constitution of India and the rules of procedure and conduct of business in West Bengal Legislative Assembly," the Speaker told reporters.
Biman Banerjee said that Adhikari did not hand over the resignation letter to him personally and has asked Adhikari to meet him on Monday to make his submission in the matter.
The development comes hours after three big exits in 24 hours from Bengal's ruling party, deepening a crisis for the Mamata Banerjee-led party ahead of polls four months away.

Adhikari formally tendered his resignation to party chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday. He has also resigned from the state legislative assembly. There is also speculation that he might join the BJP.
In his resignation letter, addressed to the party chief and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Adhikari had thanked the TMC for the opportunities given to him.
"I am writing to tender my resignation as a member of All India Trinamool Congress as well as from all other positions held by me in the party and its associate organs with immediate effect. I am thankful for all the challenges and opportunities that have been given to me and I will always value my time spent as a member of the party," he wrote.

Reacting to Suvendu's exit, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said, "People who won't get a ticket are going away".
Adhikari has also written to WB Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, seeking his intervention so that the police and administration apparatus is dissuaded from implicating him or his followers in criminal cases.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Trinamool Congress MLA Jitendra Tiwari had resigned from the post of chairman of the administrative board of the Asansol Municipal Corporation. He has also resigned as the TMC president of Paschim Bardhaman district.
"Within an hour of leaving the post of administrator, my office was ransacked on instructions from Kolkata. Now it is not possible for me to stay with them. I have resigned from the post of district chief of the party," TMC MLA Tiwari said.
