Imphal, December 17 2020: Development work has started for a dedicated 60.70 metre long cycle and walking lane stretching from Sanjenthong to eastern gate of Kangla.

The dedicated lane has been, developed on the bank of Imphal River in front of Kangla and to the north of Sanjenthong bridge.

The lane will be designed with seating area in the middle and cycling and walking track on the side.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, an official of engineering section of Planning and Development Authority (PDA), said after a limited e-tender in December 2019 .

the work on the project was started in November 2019 by PDA as a part of 'Western River Front of Imphal River' under Imphal Smart City Mission with design provided by Imphal Smart City Consultant.

The brick walled dedicated lane will have a 3.5 metre walking lane, 2 metre cycle track and the middle will have seating areas along with proper lighting.

The project is estimated to cost about Rs 13 crore but only Rs 5 crores have been sanctioned as of now.

At present, 70 workers are wroking on the project.

The Government has plans to add food plazas along this stretch to attract visitors.

The project is planned for completion by March 2021 .
