Ludhiana, December 17

Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Harpal Cheema said the Central Government should meet demands of farmers and revoke the new farm Acts. He was in Ludhiana today to attend an event organised by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to welcome new members to the party.

On the occasion, Cheema said during the farmers’ agitation, AAP served farmers in the best possible way. The Centre should repeal the new farm laws.

He demanded that those farmers who lost their lives during the ongoing farmers’ protest should be given the status of martyr and families of the victims should be given compensation by the government.

Responding to a query, Cheema said the AAP government in Delhi had not implemented any new farm law.

Cheema said: “A number of selfless people joined AAP today. These new party members were impressed by public-centric works being carried out under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister and national convener of the party, Arvind Kejriwal.”

He blamed the Capt Amarinder Singh-led Congress government in the state for failing to fulfill pre-poll promises made to every section of society.
