Farmer leaders said on Thursday that they would take the next step only after consulting with senior lawyers including Colin Gonsalves, HS Phoolka, Dushyant Dave, and Prashant Bhushan.

Farmer leaders have said this after the Supreme Court's comment in which the apex court has said to consider setting up a fair and independent committee with the presence of agricultural experts and farmer unions. The apex court has proposed the resolution to resolve the deadlock between farmers and the central government against the new agricultural laws.

The agitating peasant leaders have praised the apex court's assertion that farmers have the right to non-violent protest, but said that their agitation will continue till a concrete solution is found. Leader of Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sabha Abhimanyu Kohar said, "We will meet senior lawyers on Friday and take advice on what can be done."

He said United Kisan Morcha of about 40 farmer unions protesting on the borders of Delhi has not received any notice from the Supreme Court. He also said that he would comment only after seeing a copy of the court's decision on the matter.

Dharampal Malik, the senior leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), said, the union has formed a technical team. First, the central government should clarify its stand whether it wants to suspend the disputed agricultural laws. He said we will first read the order of the Supreme Court, consult our lawyers and then decide the next step.

Two minutes silence for Sant Ram Singh

The protesting farmers took a two-minute silence on Thursday to pay homage to Sant Ram Singh. Sant Ram Singh of Nanaksar Gurdwara of Singhra, Karnal, committed suicide on Wednesday on the Singhu Border, saddened by the plight of the farmers during the Kisan agitation.
