Naveen accuses central government of a step-motherly attitude to Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Dec 18 (UNI) Biju Janata Dal chief and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik accused the Centre of adopting a step-motherly attitude towards Odisha and not according special category status to the state.
Addressing the first executive committee meeting of the BYJD through video conferencing, Mr Patnaik said both the national parties — BJP and Congress had promised during the elections to accord special category status to Odisha in their manifesto but conveniently forgot their promises soon after the elections.
The BJD president said almost every year Odisha faces a natural calamity and suffers hugely due to them.
Though national parties promised to accord special category status but they failed to keep their promises.
But BJD will continue to fight for it and keep reminding national parties about their step-motherly treatment to Odisha.
Mr Patnaik said only a regional party like BJD can stand and fight for its people
He further said BJD as a regional party whose survival and growth is in sync with the growth and development of Odisha can stand and fight for its people.
Mr Patnaik said only a regional party will do justice for the aspirations of the youth of Odisha, preserve Odisha’s unique identity. Contrary to this the national parties will give “a small drop from their vast ocean", he warned.
“We have been fighting for the water of Mahanadi. We have been fighting to declare Odissi music as classical. We have been fighting for inclusion of Kosali and Ho languages in the 8th Schedule. We have been fighting for the benefits of our mineral riches to come to the state and its people," Mr Patnaik said.
The BJD President said BJD like the national parties does not have any bosses in Delhi.
The four and half crore people of the state are the boss of the BJD. "We have to impress only the people of Odisha and will continue to fight for their rights," he maintained.
He said on the contrary the national parties are bound to compromise on the distinctive requirements of a state for gains in larger national context.
For a national party or their branches in states, the language, water, diversity do not matter.
The state leaders of national parties neither have the voice to insist on protecting “the unique heritage nor do they have the intent to do so in hierarchical centralised national party structure".
Mr Patnaik said the primary objective of the state leadership of a national party is to impress the national leadership so that they can get crucial posts or become ministers.
